In the spirit of learning more about solo jazz piano, I decided to put what I am learning in a new blog. I will be trying out the strategies, documenting them, and tweaking them as I go so you can do it to! Check out my blog page to see the latest!
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colorado State University in December with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in Jazz Piano and Composition! I know its been awhile since my last post, but I have been kind of busy. Now I am working on iPad apps, which is really fun. Stay tuned to find out about my next adventure!
Collage, all-female blues and R&B band featuring Sophie West (vocals), Laurel Mayhew (guitar), Elda Dellinger (bass), and Becky Williams (drums), played at Charlie L's Pub in Loveland for their 2014 debut! It was a blast! It's official! Laurel will be playing the first jazz piano junior recital at CSU! Mark your calendars! Check out the new blog page! This blog is about all the things I wish I had been shown at the beginning including how to go about studying jazz, how to develop practice routines, how to grow as a player, how to develop your career, and piano-specific advice.
Collage is a new blues/jazz band featuring Sophie West on vocals, Elda Derringer on bass, Sandy Moffet on keys, Becky Williams on drums, and me on guitar! Remington Street is a straight-ahead jazz combo. See the new pictures of Kaelin (trombone), Jeromey (drums), and Josh (bass)! Collage is a female jazz/blues quintet that plays everything from jazz standards like "How High the Moon" to R&B favorites like "Son of a Preacher Man". We practice in an industrial space in Loveland that looks like it's right out of NYC. I play guitar in this band. I have been playing on "Red," a beautiful PRS that has really low action. Her nickname is "Speedy!" I am really excited to be part of this project. The Women's Studies Department had an event to award scholarships to graduate and undergraduate women earning bachelor's degrees and certificates. Kate VIncent and I played as a duo to provide jazz music for the event. They really enjoyed our playing and invited us to play again next year! Also the Ethnic Studies Department Head invited us to play at their graduation event in May! You can read the testimonial from Dr. Souza here.
